The NATF Wildlife Rescue Service Disaster
Relief Team operates search and rescue of distressed and injured wildlife
after natural disasters including bushfires, storms, oil spills or heat
waves. Where possible preventative measures such as heat stress relief
in local Flying Fox colonies is also undertaken.

Update:
Friday 4th September: The NATF Disaster Response Team, NPWS Hunter and
Crest Newcastle and NPWS joined together to search the devastated area
for injured wildlife.

No koalas found dead or alive.
This was a very hot fire in many parts which left no escape
route for many of our fauna who would have died. Many possums would
be dead in hollows and not found. The NATF Wildlife Rescue Service will
continue to monitor the area for wildlife that may present as injured
fauna in the following weeks. Some fauna may have escaped the heat during
the bushfire but may return to find their homes burnt out or food supplies
gone.
NATF Wildlife Rescue would like to thank the wonderful
support that Crest (radio communications) provided and also NPWS Hunter
for their on ground support. . Twenty NATF members were involved, some
taking leave from work and their business to help search the burnt aftermath
of the Fingal Bay bushfire, for any signs of injured or burnt wildlife.
